Dear Ray: Remembering Forward

Dear Brother Ray,

I want to share a strange way of looking at time. We experience our lives a day at a time, with the past behind us and the future still hidden. But perhaps God sees the completed person while we live through the unfolding.

I offer this as a spiritual reflection, a way of wondering about our life in Christ. Perhaps who we are now is an echo of who God already sees in Him. This does not mean we are presently perfect or that our choices do not matter. It means our life may be drawn by a future completion already real to God.

Faith then becomes a form of remembering forward: receiving today something of the person we will be in resurrection and glory.

By remembering forward, I do not mean recalling a life we have already lived. I mean trusting Christ so deeply that His promised completion begins to change how we inhabit this unfinished day. We can acknowledge what still needs to grow without making our incompleteness the whole truth about us.

Perhaps this also changes how we see one another. The brother before us is more than the weakness we can presently identify. There is a work of Christ unfolding in him that we cannot yet see in its fullness. That gives us reason for patience, and room for hope.

Maybe life is about slowly becoming, in time, the person God has always held in His eternal love. And the One who will bring us into that fullness is already here: Christ Himself, our life today.

Your brother,
Brent
